July–August 2010 at MoMA
Dear Friends:
July and August are always exciting months at MoMA—the Sculpture Garden is in full bloom, new exhibitions debut in the galleries, and live music draws a spirited crowd on summer evenings, from the jazz and classical concerts of Summergarden to the international rhythms of MoMA Nights. Upcoming highlights in the galleries include an exhibition surveying one of the most experimental periods in Henri Matisse's career; a major display of works exploring the creative exchange between photography and sculpture; solo shows by Dinh Q. Lê, Bruce Nauman, and Lee Bontecou; and a stunning reinstallation of the Contemporary Galleries. At MoMA PS1, the latest Young Architects Program installation sets a playful scene for Warm Up, which kicks off in July.
In late September, MoMA’s fourth-floor galleries will feature one of the most ambitious projects in the Museum’s history: a sweeping multi-medium installation of Abstract Expressionism from the collection, including masterworks by such artists as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and David Smith. In preparation, the fourth floor will temporarily close next month in two phases, on August 9 and 23. I hope you’ll plan a visit this fall to experience what is sure to be a breathtaking display!
